Today (18 March 2025) HM Inspector of Prisons published a report on the women’s prison HMP Styal. Findings from the report show soaring rates of self-harm and substance misuse alongside a widespread failure to secure housing for women on release. Nacro’s CEO Campbell Robb, comments on the report.

Nacro responds to HM Chief Inspector of Prisons annual report: 2024 to 2025
Nacro responds to today’s (08.07.2025) annual report from HM Inspectorate of Prisons, Charlie Taylor. This yearโs 2024-2025 HMIP Annual Report is an annual overview of the prison system through a lens of unannounced inspections, its findings draw on 83 reports published between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025, including information from inspections of 36 menโs prisons and two womenโs prisons, as well as independent reviews of progress at 11 menโs prisons.
We must address growing homelessness
Nacro analyses Government data showing a 15% increase in households threatened with homelessness, including a 142% increase in households who facing homelessness after being evicted as result of the lifting of the ban of evictions during the pandemic.
