Supported housing funding announcement (2018)
Today, we welcome the announcement from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government that funding for supported housing is to stay in the welfare system. For more than two years, Nacro has campaigned to protect funding for housing that provides support to some of the most vulnerable people in society. This includes those with learning disabilities, women and children escaping domestic violence, older people, people living with mental illness and people who are homeless. As a supported housing provider working across the country, we know that these services are absolutely critical and the proposals put forward by the government last year put these vital services at risk. We are pleased t that the government has recognised the need to protect supported housing from unstable funding mechanisms.
We also welcome the announcement of a review into housing and support and we look forward to working with the government to feed in our extensive experience on the importance of the right support that is needed alongside housing. The right quality of support can enable people to move on to independent, stable accommodation and, ultimately, forward with their lives.
