Responding local authorities on Homelessness Reduction Act 2017

Published:

Nacro currently works with many local authorities to confront homelessness through influencing government policy and developing alternative housing solutions. However, we believe that the HRA provides us with further opportunities to do more. Through our expertise and knowledge in preventing and relieving homelessness, we will support local authorities to translate the HRA into concrete actions and services. We are pledging to support local authorities in meeting their new HRA obligations.
We acknowledge that the government has allocated additional resources to local authorities to implement the HRA. However, without substantial increases in resources and housing supply, we recognise that the HRA will inevitably place further demand on already stretched local authorities. We, therefore, believe that the aims of the HRA cannot be achieved by local authorities alone and will require the support of a network of local partners.
