Dover learners work towards the John Muir Award

Young people from our Dover education centre recently spent a day working towards the John Muir Discovery Award. The award encourages people to connect with, enjoy, and care for wild places.
Dover learners really enjoyed the day, learning new skills and taking on board health and safety guidance.  They made parachute rope bracelets, used logs to build fences and learned how to make fire using Vaseline and spark boards. Speaking about the learners, Pete Evans, an outdoor learning training from The Bay Trust said, they were a fantastic bunch of students, and working with them had been an absolute pleasure.

Future activities are already planned to help the young people achieve their award. They include beach rock pooling, clearing the beach and making fishing rods, geocaching or learning about what kind of animals live in the local area.
