We need a Pupil Premium Plus, a specific pot of funding for disadvantaged pupils in education or training, aged 16-19. This is one of the main calls in our Learn Without Limits campaign.
It goes without saying that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on apprenticeships.Β While the pandemic did not create inequalities, it has certainly exacerbated them.
After the pandemic, there is a real risk of a long-term negative impact on the educational outcomes for the disadvantaged, those struggling with education, and those with additional needs.
The 16-19 year old disadvantage gap shows the dire need for more targeted support.
Since its introduction in 2010, the pupil premium has helped sharpen the focus on improving outcomes for the most disadvantaged pupils.
