Get Set! to start your journey into the world of sport and fitness with Nacro Education Spalding.
If youβre thinking about a career in sport, looking for something a bit different from mainstream college, and still want a nationally recognised qualification, our Get Set! for Gym Instructing Level 2 is a great place to start.
The course combines theoretical and practical learning so you will come away with the hands-on experience, skills, and knowledge you need to kickstart your fitness career.
You'll learn about the bones and muscles that you will use in the gym and the bodily systems that maintain your fitness, as well learning about nutrition and how it is related to exercise.
Giving you the transferable skills and knowledge, you need to start your career, progress onto further levels of study, or pursue an apprenticeship.
At the end of the course, youβll have the hands-on experience and confidence you need to take your next step.
Get Set! for Gym Instructing Level 2 is recognised as the occupational standard (Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF)) to work as a Gym Instructor.
What will I learn?
At Nacro Education Spalding, we let you learn in your way, at your pace. On Get Set! for Gym Instructing Level 2 you will develop your knowledge and skills to plan and safely deliver affective exercise programmes within a gym or other health and fitness environment. You will also learn about being self-employed if you want to go down this route. Whilst studying this course you will gain skills and understanding in:
β’ Anatomy, physiology, and nutrition and how they relate to exercise and fitness.
β’ How to conduct client and group inductions in a gym-based environment and support exercise adherence and health lifestyle.
β’ Professional aspects of a Gym Instructor.
β’ Personal and professional development.
You will be awarded the qualification following successful completion of the units through a portfolio of evidence.
Modules
During your Gym Instructing Level 2 course, you will cover a range of modules designed to broaden your knowledge and skills and give you the confidence to take the next step. By completing these modules, you will be able to gain an industry-recognised certification. These include:
β’ Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors
β’ Health and safety in the fitness environment
β’ Planning and instructing gym-based exercise
By completing these modules, you will be able to gain an industry recognised certification.
As part of your Get Set! Gym Instructing Level 2 course, you will also complete your GCSE English and/or maths, depending on whether you have achieved a grade 4 or above.
Assessment
At Nacro Education Spalding, we use a variety of assessment methods to ensure you achieve the Gym Instructing Level 2 qualification.
You will be assessed in a range of ways, through completion of worksheets, observations of your practical work, assignments, and an exam paper. Your teacher will go through all this when you sign up for the course.
Work experience
Our Get Set! courses give you the opportunity to gain real-world experience working in local businesses alongside the learning youβll do at Nacro Education.
For Gym Instructing Level 2, you will get the opportunity to take part in work experience during work placement week in the Spring term.
You will be given help to find a suitable placement and supported while working there, meaning youβll leave with something impressive to add to your CV, as well as gaining practical experience and skills.
Enrichment opportunities
Enrichment activities allow you to gain valuable extra-curricular experiences that enable you to stand out on your CV. As part of all our Get Set! courses, you will be involved in a variety of enrichment opportunities which are on offer through the year, including:
β’ Email writing and communication skills.
β’ CV writing and interview practice.
β’ Job research.
For the Gym Instructing course, students will have regular gym visits to practise using the exercise machines and equipment to gain more confidence in the environment. We also go on trips relating to the course, for example attending a First Aid course, Body Power exhibition in Birmingham and Elevate fitness conference in London.
Career and progression
After successfully passing this course, you will have core knowledge to progress to a higher-level qualification and to move forward towards your chosen career.
Once you have completed your Gym Instructing Level 2 course, you will be qualified to work in a gym and give out inductions without assistance. You can also choose to continue your study onto a Level 3 or university course in Sports Science or Physiotherapy.
