Course overview

If you have ever thought about working in a restaurant, café or hotel, why not join one of our Hospitality and Catering courses? At Nacro you can learn all about preparing food and drink, serving customers and taking bookings. You will be able to try out recipes for yourself, practice making drinks and prepare yourself for a really enjoyable job.

What will I learn?

You will learn about many aspects of the catering and hospitality industry and gain valuable practical and teamwork skills. The qualification covers various routes, including cookery, food service and the industry as a whole.

Modules

There are a range of modules available for either the Award, Certificate or Diploma. These include:

• Basic food preparation and cooking
• Preparing and serving drinks
• Using kitchen equipment
• Essential knife skills for the catering industry
• Preparing and displaying salads and sandwiches for service

Assessment

You will be required to complete a range of written assignments. You will also be required to demonstrate some skills whilst being observed by your tutor.

Work experience

You will do at least two weeks of work experience to support your studies, gain experience and potentially develop contacts with future employers. Our team will help you secure a work placement and will provide you with everything required for you to attend your placement.

Enrichment opportunities

There are a variety of enrichment opportunities on offer throughout the year, including trips and external visits.

Career and progression

It will enable students to seek employment in a wide variety of catering establishments or progress onto further study at Level 2.

  • Participate in a range of activities, opportunities, team collaboration challenges and educational site visits that enable personal development through real experiences.
  • Learn financial and human skills through our partnerships with MyBank and our localised tutorial programme.

*GCSE/Functional Skills English and maths are only required if you haven’t already gained a level 4 or above.
