This report looks at the physical health of people in prison and includes a survey of over a 100 recent prison leavers. The report addresses the impact of imprisonment on physical health, including the impact of overcrowding and unsanitary conditions, lack of purposeful activity and poor quality diets. We examine the problems and barriers to accessing healthcare services, including difficulties in accessing treatment and lengthy waiting lists, missed appointments, issues with medication, feeling ‘unseen’, and issues on transfer between prisons and on release.
We champion those who’s voice which need to be heard. We believe that by bringing awareness and celebrating equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) days, we can create a better community and understanding. Our 2025 wall planner, contains the dates of the main EDI days across the year for you to celebrate. Download your copy.
Nacro was commissioned by Commonweal Housing to identifies the current challenges prison leavers face accessing stable housing and suitable support and the effect this has on reoffending.
The young people’s views in this report were drawn from an online survey and a series of focus groups that were conducted across Nacro Education centres and our young people’s supported housing services. We received over 240 survey responses from young people aged 14-21, which contained questions across a broad range of areas, including life satisfaction, aspirations for the future, and their views on crime and politics. This statement outlines Nacro’s environmental objectives and targets, how we seek to achieve these, and Nacro’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact. We understand our activities have an environmental impact, and we recognise our responsibility to minimise those environmental impacts by supporting the UK’s Net Zero Carbon Emission 2030 goals, preventing pollution, tackling climate change, and continuing to maintain environmental legislative compliance.
Nacro recognises that domestic abuse has a serious effect on people’s lives, both emotionally and physically.
We are committed to taking all reasonable steps possible to combat the impact of domestic abuse, for the individuals being abused, children and other family members affected by domestic abuse; as well as challenging the behaviour of perpetrators.
