New Offender Accommodation Pilot announcement
In response to the new Offender Accommodation Pilot announcement, Nacro Chief Executive Campbell Robb said:
“The people we support upon release from prison so often face an impossible struggle to make a fresh start, held back by homelessness, a lack of health support, job opportunities or sufficient money to get food and basics to survive.
“Whilst we are encouraged to hear that over 400 people leaving prison will be able to access the support they need through the new Offender Accommodation pilot, this is a drop in the ocean. With the recent news that the probation service makes the most homeless referrals itβs clear we urgently need more investment to ensure all people leaving prison have somewhere to live and the right support. Without this, we cannot truly tackle and bring down reoffending rates.”
