Nacro wins at the Charity Film Awards

Published:

In an award ceremony attended by charities from across the UK at the Odeon in London’s Leicester Square, Nacro won Gold for our #CellStreetRepeat campaign video.

On March 21st, we won Gold at the Charity Film Awards for our Christmas campaign video which highlights the vital role housing plays in rehabilitation.

The Charity Film Awards are the world’s biggest campaign to promote cause-based films, and the awards are recognised by both the BFI and IMDB.

Cell. Street. Repeat. Our film.

Our film ‘Cell Street Repeat at Christmas’ highlights the plight of prison leaver homelessness. When someone leaves prison without safe and stable accommodation, they are held back from accessing support or getting a job.

Two thirds of those who are released into homelessness will go on to reoffend within the year.

This is the process of cell, street, repeat.

Made entirely in-house by Nacro’s digital team, the film explores the differences between leaving prison with and without housing.

Nacro has long campaigned to end prison leaver homelessness. We made this film as a take on the classic Christmas advert, to highlight the problem at a time when many come together at home to celebrate the festive season.

The team

Digital communications and content officer Lilka Szerszynska was one of the team who helped make the film and attended the awards to pick up the win.

She said: “I’m so proud of the film we made, it really highlights the campaign we have to ensure everyone leaving prison has access to housing. I’m so pleased we won Gold and the work we put in and campaign has been recognised.”

Nacro was up against tough competition, sharing a category with the amazing films of Jewish Care, Shelter, Anthony Nolan, Which?, Mind and The Prince’s Trust.

Digital manager and graphic designer Aimee Marten said: “All the films that were shown were a true representation of the amazing work that charities across the UK do. It was such an uplifting and inspiring event, but to come away with the prize for Gold and the Bronze in the People’s choice award, it’s just incredible.”
