Get Set! to start your journey into the world of women’s hairdressing with Nacro Education Middlesbrough.
If you’re thinking about a career in women’s hairdressing, looking for something a bit different from mainstream college, and still want a nationally recognised certificate, our Get Set! for Hair and Beauty Level 2 could be for you.
Crafted alongside industry experts, our Hair and Beauty Level 2 course will give you work experience, practical learning in small, personalised classes and one-to-one support. You will come away with the in-depth experience, skills, and knowledge you need to start your career in women’s hairdressing.
What will I learn?
At Nacro Education Middlesbrough, we let you learn in your way, at your pace. On Get Set! for Hair and Beauty Level 2 you will be studying in a real salon environment on live models, getting range of practical skills from across the hairdressing sector, for example hair shampooing and conditioning, the art of dressing hair, client consultations, cutting and colouring hair.
During the course you will also develop key employability skills, such as career planning, self-management, problem solving, team working, and personal budgeting. This means even if you decide not to go into a career in hairdressing, you’ll be much more attractive to other future employers, as well as bursting with confidence.
You will be awarded the qualification following successful completion of the units through a portfolio of evidence.
Modules
As part of your Hair and Beauty Level 2 course, you will cover a range of modules designed to deepen your knowledge and skills and give you the confidence to take the next step. By completing these modules, you will be able to gain an industry recognised certification.
These include:
• Working in the hair industry
• Client consultation for hair services
• The art of dressing hair
• Cutting women’s hair
• Colour and lightening hair
When you have completed the core modules you can extend your skills by learning perming, scalp massage, and show work. Your teacher will go through all this when you sign up for the course.
As part of your Get Set! Hair and Beauty Level 2, you will also complete your GCSE and/or Functional Skills English and/or maths, depending on whether you have achieved a grade 4 or above.
Assessment
At Nacro Education Middlesbrough, we use a variety of assessment methods to ensure you achieve the Hair and Beauty Level 2 qualification.
You will be assessed on the course's practical tasks and feedback will be given in a one-to-one meeting with your teacher. Practical assessments are conducted in a real salon environment on live models. Your teacher will go through all this when you sign up for the course.
Work experience
Our Get Set! courses give you the opportunity to gain real-world experience working in local businesses alongside the learning you’ll do at Nacro Education.
For Hair and Beauty Level 2, you will have the chance to work with a local hairdressing or beauty salon for two days per week, alongside your course.
You will be given help to find a suitable placement and supported while working there, meaning you’ll leave with something impressive to add to your CV, as well as gaining practical experience and skills.
Enrichment opportunities
Enrichment activities allow you to gain valuable extra-curricular experiences that enable you to stand out on your CV. As part of all our Get Set! courses, you will be involved in a variety of enrichment opportunities which are on offer through the year, including:
• Email writing and communication skills.
• CV writing and interview practice.
• Job research.
For the Hair and Beauty Level 2 course, you will be given an opportunity to explore the wider world of work and bond with your classmates though external activities such as workplace visits, wholesalers, and trade shows.
Career and progression
After successfully passing this course, you will have core knowledge to progress to a higher-level qualification such as Hair and Beauty Level 3, pursue an apprenticeship, or start your career.
